Before & After Landscaping Projects

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is watching a landscape transform before our eyes: taking an existing situation or problem, designing a solution, and implementing the changes necessary to see the end result blossom.

Using intelligent design and the principles of permaculture, and partnering with nature for our work to grow and thrive, over time sites are unrecognizable having changed so much for the better. ‘In every problem is the solution’ with many challenges presenting creative landscaping and ecosystem opportunities. Contact us to discuss your landscape design needs or tell us the problem you’re having and we’ll help you solve it. We’re your Santa Fe sustainable and creative landscapers!

BEFORE ON THE LEFT / AFTER ON THE RIGHT
landscaping-before-1 Typical landscape with poor soils and slope make it difficult to grow vegetation.
landscaping-after-1 Rainwater catchment, drip irrigation & treated wastewater permaculture garden.
stonework-before-1 A standard New Mexico flagstone pathway before.
stonework-after-1 Raised moss rock & flagstone pathway directs rainwater to the planting beds.
hardscape-before-2 Impermeable roads & parking lots concentrate runoff water, creating erosion.
hardscape-after-2 Working with slope, stormwater runoff flows in channels to water the landscape.
seeding-before-4 Typical drainage with steep banks & side channel erosion.
seeding-after-4 Steep banks eliminated; zuni bowls & native grasses/wildflowers added.
seeding-before-3 Classic compacted native soil, with low nutrient content & barren.
seeding-after-3 Native grasses/wildflowers thrive with organic matter, beneficial microbes added.
seeding-before-1 Property near Eldorado with a barren, stark landscape and no vegetation.
seeding-after-1 A temporary irrigation system helps native grasses/wildflowers germinate.
seeding-before-2 Barren slope with weeds and erosion, decrease property value and aesthetics.
seeding-after-2 Temporary irrigation for grasses/wildflowers helps with aesthetics and erosion.
erosion-before-1 Large headcuts will continually erode upslope towards this house & driveway.
erosion-after-1 Water now flows through drop structures & zuni bowls, eliminating erosion.
erosion-before-2 Drainage from neighboring properties can be devastating to homeowners.
erosion-after-2 Water is now channeled and routed to flow into planting areas around the home.
erosion-before-3 'One rock dam' with native grass planted under rocks, which act as a mulch.
erosion-after-3 One year later the native grass spreads thanks to passive water harvesting.
hardscape-before-1 Runoff water from an adjacent property flooded this area at least twice a year.
hardscape-after-1 New drainage captures sediment and reroutes water to an orchard behind garage.
